It just seems as though it was yesterday when Speaker, Singer and award winning Songwriter, Charity Zisengwe began a life of ministry. But in reality her ministry spans over 20 years sharing the spoken word and singing the good news of Jesus Christ. Charity looks back and sees God’s footprints everywhere she’s been and the road ahead is embedded in grace. God’s fingerprints are on every assignment that she has taken. Charity has ministered at events both big and small. She’s been honored with invitations to speak and/or sing at church services, church special events, conferences, crusades, concerts, women’s events, retreats, workshops and private events. It is amazing to imagine that there was a day that this long road began. And that day was not a coincidence, it was ordained by God.

Charity Zisengwe was born and raised in Zimbabwe. Her parents were elders in their church and Charity admits that the foundation they laid in her spiritual life, helped all the men and women of God who came to build on it. The seventh of nine siblings, Charity was born an invalid. During her childhood years she was often sick and her mother would often lay hands on her and pray for her healing.

One thing that was so visibly prevalent in Charity was her passion for singing. As a little girl, wherever she was she was always humming a tune, even in school when class was in progress she would be humming a song. This humming has not yet stopped. While other people play music on radio in the background, Charity does her own background music by humming it herself.

With this tremendous passion for music, her mother would often rebuke her for it because when she called, Charity would not hear because she would be so consumed in her song. The rebuking of her mother did not help. Music was engrained in her while she was in her mother’s womb.

Charity got her break when she went to high school. Born again during her freshman year, she started a trio with two of her high school friends afterwards and she did not know then that this was the mustard seed that God would use to birth her ministry. Meanwhile, Charity was selected as one of the leaders of a non-denominational Christian group in the school. As one of the leaders of this non-denominational group, Charity and the other leaders would share the spoken word with other students.

After this a cappella trio began, the school kept asking these three girls to sing during morning devotion. More and more students began to join and it grew into a mass choir of over 50 students. Most of the students in the Christian group joined this choir and God began to open doors for them through the school and the church. Through the choir, God allowed the entire group to be incorporated into church and school special programs to minister in music and the spoken word. That was the beginning of Charity’s speaking and singing ministry. From a quiet, shy and obscure girl, God birthed an eternal assignment that people are still being blessed by today.

Between then and now, Charity went on to graduate from college with a Business Admin degree, majoring in Marketing from Montclair State University (NJ). A year later she earned a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing from The Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK). Over the years she has actively served in various ministries in the church. She has been a member of the worship team and choir, soloist, intercessor, instructor in the Prayer School and Cell Group Leader. God is still opening doors for her to share His light through the spoken word and her music ministry.
